Wallace and Gromit’s Musical Marvels

When we were offered tickets to see Wallace and Gromit’s Musical Marvels, I absolutely jumped at the chance. For me, the eccentric protagonist and his canine pal are massively nostalgic and remind me of Christmas at home with all the family. Each stop motion animation is also on Netflix at the moment and the kids have been transfixed when I put the short films on (I hugely recommend them if you want to have a cuppa in peace for 5 minutes!).

So, Erin and I spent our bank holiday Monday hopping on the train to the Barbican and weren’t too sure what to expect from the show but we were not disappointed. The first half consisted of the Picture House Orchestra accompanying various Wallace and Gromit montages and even performing Bohemian Rhapsody which got me a bit emosh – it was incredible. The presenter, Matthew Sharp, puts on a brilliant show too!

Erin thought it was hilarious that the orchestra were all dressed up as various Aardman characters (and cheese, of course!) – Shaun the Sheep being her personal favourite. Oh and we were sat right in the middle of row M – the view was perfect so if you get the option to choose seats, I’d definitely recommend these!

After a quick interval, we watched ‘The Wrong Trousers’, once again accompanied by the mega talented orchestra. A perfect Monday afternoon.

The venue was easy to get to and as it was a sunny afternoon, we sat outside by the water features for a while before heading home. Erin absolutely loved the show, especially the second half, and I would say it is suitable for ages 3 and up! What a brilliant introduction to orchestral music for little ones.
